Now we know that the troubles of life and the pitfalls of sin are many. Dealing with most of the issues will take you all your life. There are times of great struggle and times of increasing victory. You will walk both roads weather you want to or not and there are many purposes and reasons that it works this way. (perseverance must have its way)
James 1:4 NAS
and let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
This is the building of a disciple. Don’t fool yourself into thinking you’re going to do this work in you. We can be discipled but only God can make you a disciple.
28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. 29 For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. 30 And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.
God already knows the path for your life runs thru a sin minefield. We have been given these years to learn to be led by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will lead us thru the maze of traps, temptations and destructive forces that lie ahead. The Holy Spirit leads us away from the sinful life and toward the God led life. As the distance to God shortens the distance from sin widens. The influence sin has over us fades.
16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
When we are given over to a spirit led life, we give up the troubles of the flesh.
1 Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3 For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. 5 Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. 6 Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. 7 You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. 8 But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. 9 Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.
17 But, dear friends, remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ foretold. 18 They said to you, “In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires.” 19 These are the people who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit.
20 But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life. 22 Be merciful to those who doubt; 23 save others by snatching them from the fire; to others show mercy, mixed with fear—hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh.
