Forgiving Yourself and God
Everyone has asked for forgiveness and most people are thru most of these issues, that is now what we are going to deal with here. There have been various groups and individuals in our lives that have required a certain level of forgiveness. One of the biggest issues that get overlooked is Self-forgiveness and forgiving God.
Self-Forgiveness 1 Corinthians 15 9 For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them—yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me. 11 Whether, then, it is I or they, this is what we preach, and this is what you believed.
So here we see that even Paul had some regrets and issues with his past. Clearly Paul got over the issues of the past just as you too can let go of the past. The key to moving on is repentance, so what is repentance. I have narrowed it to 5 basic steps.
Take an honest look at yourself.
Recognize and acknowledge a harmful habit, trait, or pattern in your life.
Pray to God - Ask God to forgive you then forgive yourself and ask to be released from those harmful habits and traits.
Believe that you have asked with your heart and believe you have been forgiven(1 John 1:9) then verbally say If any issues continue to trouble you reinforce your profession of self-forgiveness, as much as necessary. You will change.
Begin a new life.
Philippians 4 8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. 9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.
Along with your repentance and new life, you must renew your mind. Read Gods word sure but also we must keep out wandering mind from dragging us back to yesterday, If we read the word or think on good things we can occupy our minds until the attack passes. Kinda like busy work for the mind, till we get back on track maybe expressed as a weak moment.
Now for the biggest issue of all Forgiving God. During the course of our lives many things occur some good some bad. Now it’s easy to thank God for a promotion or a new friend or career path but what about when things go wrong or even horribly wrong, who’s to blame for that, it must be somebody’s fault and I didn’t do it. This is where the lines got muddy. The first question out of most people is God why did you let this happen? I thought we had a relationship, an agreement we are friends or at least I thought you would help me?
Knowing that God knew what was going to happen and He didn’t help or even tell us it was coming seems inexcusable. God did you save me just to throw me to the wolves, I thought you loved me!
This is such a difficult time heartbreak and confusion, what am I to do now?
Now in Hebrews 11: 1-38 goes on to talk about Abraham, Isaack, Jacob, Joseph and Moses to name a few. It expresses what they went thru and what they accomplished and in verse 39 says.
39 These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised, 40 since God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect.
Isaiah 55 8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. 9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
This is where the world of flesh crashes into the spirit word, the walk of the flesh or the leading of the Holy Spirit. Will live by what can be seen or believe what God has promised. Here is where forgiving God comes in; if I have unforgiveness toward God I have turned my back on Him. Like a spoiled child if I don’t get what I want I’m not talking to you. And even if your heart feels broken God is not the source of that tragedy, however He is the healer and restorer of everything.
Isaiah 55:8-9 (NIV) 8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. 9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
Jeremiah 29:11(NIV) 11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
These are not the words of an angry vengeful God so gather your courage and pray. God forgive me for blaming you for the bad events of my life, I am sorry for my behavior and I know in my heart you are the Father of Love. I ask you to carry me thru this tough time. I forgive you God and I release me from my vengeance and I ask you to heal my heart and my life. “In Jesus Name”.
