4 Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering,
yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted.
5 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.
Where does sickness come from…….God
Does God want you to be sick….……..No
So why do I get sick?
I think there are 3 basic avenues for sickness to enter into our lives.
1) Satan causes sickness directly. Demonic attack. For example, approximately 25 percent of Jesus’ healings as recorded in the Gospel of Mark involve demons. The direct influence of the devil is explicitly demonstrated when Jesus healed a crippled woman and was scolded by a synagogue leader for doing it on the Sabbath. Jesus said, “Ought not this woman being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has bound—think of it—for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath?” (Luke 13:16). Satan’s direct role is also explicit in the case of Job. What percentage of sickness is directly caused by Satan we do not know, but unquestionably much is.
2) Satan indirectly uses the natural results of the fall of man, to cause sickness and suffering. He uses bacteria, viruses, malnutrition, accidents, and poison in the environment, genic mutations and ancestral sin, just to name some.
3) Satan tempts people to fall into sin, and God at times uses sickness to correct or punish them for it. There are many examples in the Old Testament of plagues, which God sent on His own people to punish them for sin. When some Israelites rebelled against Moses and Aaron, God sent a plague and killed 14,700 ( Num. 16:45-50). In the New Testament, God made Elymas the sorcerer blind as part of a power encounter ( Acts 13:6-12). In Corinth some believers were sick and some had died as a result of disrespecting the Lord’s Supper. (I Cor. 11:30).
All of these are ways to get sick, so how do I avoid getting sick or at least much less sickly. First the obvious precautions, repent of your sins, learn how to pray and build a shield of relationship with God. Two, take good care of yourself, concerning your lifestyle choices, such as sleep, activities outside your house, who you associate with, eating as healthy as possible and cleanliness are a good start to a healthy lifestyle. Third, avoid sinning as much as possible this lowers the opportunities for the devil to attack you.
So this is how it worked out for me….Howard
When I was just saved I was healed of some ailments and was excited about God. I thought everyone would want to be healed, so I asked everyone I saw with any ailment. To my surprise very few were even interested in anyone praying for them and the ones that let me pray didn’t believe any good would come of it….no expectation whatsoever so the results were dismal and discouraging.
As time went on I learned to let the Holy Spirit lead me in this, turns out timing is very important. At first maybe 2 in 10 were healed to some extent and at time it was embarrassing because I could explain why they weren’t healed.
I continued to look for people to pray for and get practice and build my faith. At this time I was also reading all the books with so many healing testimonies, It was a great faith builder. His powerful faith kept me from quitting and also my own healings were still good so this healing thing could not be denied, no matter what I saw.
**Caution 75% of all people called to a healing ministry quit right here or mostly give up
One of the first major improvements was extensive deliverance which I was unaware I needed, but WOW I did. When I would ask God; if I had had to keep going to these things He would say “I will tell you when you’re done”. It was another year before God told me to ask to join the deliverance team. So at this point the sinning is way down in my life, maybe 80% better, in my estimation, also I had gotten set free from an amazing number of issues.
As a side effect of the removal of demonic influence and rebellion to God, to my amazement many of the gifts of the Holy Spirit began to work. Healings were up dramatically maybe 5 in 10 were now ether healed or a good percentage healed.
In the beginning to offset the emotional drain when nothing happened because as far as I had come I still had issues and I knew it. I could tell it greatly affected the results of my prayers, how obedient I was on a weekly basis. I developed a saying to strengthen me, This put the ultimate responsibility on God and not me, so if you didn’t get healed, go talk to God.
I once prayed for a man with severe back issues and he was instantly healed, I had just prayed for his wife who had cancer and she died. He asked me why I could get him healed and not her, I said I have faith for you but not cancer. That was a tough day! As my faith grew I stopped using God as my crutch and let His faith lead me and I got thru it.
Now I expect people to get well and it doesn’t have to get completed today. The process of healing takes many forms and many purposes for God. Healing isn’t a formula or a specific prayer; it’s about a love affair with my heavenly Dad!
