We Want to Be Friended By God
We Want to Be Friended By God
As I learn more and more about Jesus and the Word of God. It is amazing to me how halfhearted the teachings are about the instructions God has given to us. Everyone, including me loves to see miracles and have wonderful things happen. And if they don’t happen we are so disappointed and confused. However there are expectations of us from God for these things to occur. I am not talking about the once in a while miracle occurrence because of a righteous person’s prayer, meaning someone who is already qualified. So we can ether search the earth for a holy man or we can become one.
So what does the word say about such things?
John 15:12 12 my command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command. 15 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. 16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. 17 This is my command: Love each other.
Jesus is speaking here and He says “love one another as I have loved you”. Now let me add to this statement that this is a command not a suggestion. You can’t say it any clearer then this “My command is this” “love one another as I have loved you”. Now in verse 15 Jesus adds to that statement that if we do this, He will no longer call us servants but then we will be included in His friends list. I definitely want to be friended by Jesus.
Matthew 22:37-39 “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with your entire mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.”
1John 4:7-8 “Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.”
Matthew 22:37-39 and 1John 4:7-8 talk about Loving God first and loving one another second. Then John goes on to say if we don’t love each other we definitely don’t love God or even know Him. Everything else we do seem to hang on these two scriptures in importance.
Scripture tells us to work as unto the Lord, don’t forget the widows and orphans and other good works. It appears to me however that all the other good works come after Love is accomplished. Perhaps the good works can help lead us to a loving heart by allowing us to see the need and see it filled, there in resulting in a change of heart.
I think that there are not many who teach about this because the answers are not easy to come by. The place in me where love must reside is a hostile environment, where anger and bitterness share the same place that love wants to reside. My heart is made up of childhood experiences which can include trouble at home or school, many disappointments or even a broken heart. Maybe some came from a country that’s not too friendly with its citizens or a bad job that we were stuck in.
The point is we all have life experiences and some are good and some are not. The negative experiences we have come thru have taken a toll on our heart and our ability to love and give ourselves to love. Scripture says when we receive Jesus as our savior we get a new life which includes a new heart. We get a heart replacement instantly but it doesn’t feel like it because all this stuff is still in our mind or soul. Jesus came to save souls meaning our minds, so how do I get my mind saved?
First step is forgiveness, we must be sure we have forgiven everyone, even if we don’t feel like it. Pray; Jesus I forgive everyone who hurt me, including me and You God and I ask to be released from the effects of unforgiveness.
Holy Spirit, I ask you to help me deal with the things I need to deal with and forget the things I don’t. I ask that you would teach me to use the word to clear my mind and see my soul that was saved by Jesus. I ask you Holy Spirit to open a path thru me to let love out. You see when we got saved Jesus filled our heart with His love, so we don’t need to get love; we need to let love out.
Father God: I pray that Your love would flow through me and that I would live my life according to Your law of love.
