So, What Do You Think?

March 12, 2017

So, What Do You Think?

John 2:13-25

Jesus clears the temple courts

13 When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover, Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 14 In the temple courts he found people selling cattle, sheep and doves, and others sitting at tables exchanging money. 15 So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. 16 To those who sold doves he said, “Get these out of here! Stop turning my Father’s house into a market!” 17 His disciples remembered that it is written: “Zeal for your house will consume me.”

18 The Jews then responded to him, “What sign can you show us to prove your authority to do all this?” 23 Now while he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Festival, many people saw the signs he was performing and believed in his name. 24 But Jesus would not entrust himself to them, for he knew all people. 25 He did not need any testimony about mankind, for he knew what was in each person.

Actions Speak Louder Than Words

The Jews at that time were looking for the messiah. Thus, when Jesus did many signs and wonders, many believed He was the Christ (anointed one).
Notice, the Pharisees asked Jesus for a sign of His authority; He gave them nothing, but He was in fact doing sings and wonder all the time. If Jesus had performed for the Pharisees, that would of submitted Jesus to the Pharisees judgement and authority. He instead let His actions speak for Him.

Matthew 13:16-23

16 But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear. 17 For truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.

18 “Listen then to what the parable of the sower means: 19 When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in their heart. This is the seed sown along the path. 20 The seed falling on rocky ground refers to someone who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. 21 But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. 22 The seed falling among the thorns refers to someone who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, making it unfruitful. 23 But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears the word and understands it. This is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.”

Heart Needs Strong Roots

The battle here seems to be waged in our hearts.
Our heads hear but our hearts believe. For it is with our hearts, we believe and are saved.

Romans 10:9-10

9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.

God Lives in Us

It is extremely clear that God resides in our hearts, which is not our actual hearts but our spirit within. Since, our spirit is from God and is incorruptible, this would be the only place that God could live in us. God cannot look upon sin much less live in it, so He had to give us a incorruptible spirit in to dwell.

Romans 14:5-9

5 One person considers one day more sacred than another; another considers every day alike. Each of them should be fully convinced in their own mind. 6 Whoever regards one day as special does so to the Lord. Whoever eats meat does so to the Lord, for they give thanks to God; and whoever abstains does so to the Lord and gives thanks to God. 7 For none of us lives for ourselves alone, and none of us dies for ourselves alone. 8 If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. 9 For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living.

Here's The Deal

Everyone represents themselves, as well as, God.

You must discover what you believe and how far that belief will take you. Belief is way different than hope. Hope in action is praying something is true and then watching it grow into belief which has its foundation established in Jesus.

2 Timothy 3:10-14

10 You, however, know all about my teaching, my way of life, my purpose, faith, patience, love, endurance, 11 persecutions, sufferings—what kinds of things happened to me in Antioch, Iconium and Lystra, the persecutions I endured. Yet the Lord rescued me from all of them. 12 In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, 13 while evildoers and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. 14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it.

2 Timothy 1:12 (NKJV)

For this reason I also suffer these things; nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day.

Parable of the sower

This life and how it goes is not tied to how I hope, think, or guess but rather, how I believe. That is what I will act from…
Find out what you believe and make sure it’s Jesus Christ, everything is built upon that fact.
