Jesus carried out His ministry and purpose through the anointing of the Holy Spirit. For thirty years He lived a righteous life in accordance with the will and purpose of the Father. He lived a life pleasing to God by the power of the Holy Spirit. When it was time for the manifestation of Jesus the Christ, He was baptized in water and when He had come up out of the water God anointed Him (Jesus) with the Holy Spirit.
John the Baptist saw the dove descend from Heaven and settle upon Jesus and remain (John 1:32). It was after this anointing of power that the miracles began and continued.
Peter testified to the fact that God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, and He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed of the Devil, for God was with Him (Acts 10:38).
It took the anointing of the Holy Spirit to destroy the works of the devil (1 John 3:8). Jesus, Himself declared that the Spirit of the Lord was upon Him.
We can conclude that the works of Jesus, His teaching, healing, deliverance ministries – were a result of the anointing. The anointing upon Jesus allowed Him to do the works He did!
Jesus, knowing that Him ministry was coming to completion, promised His disciples that whoever believes in Him will do the works He did, and greater works (John 14:12).
Now, Jesus did all His works by the anointing, then we would need the same anointing that was upon Jesus to carry out His commission to us. If Jesus said we could do the same works as Him, then the level of anointing would need to be the same as His anointing. So thru the anointing we are able to walk in His authority, and do what He did.
There are some who teach that the church as a whole has the same anointing as Jesus had, but Jesus didn’t say the church would do the works of God. No He said that whoever believes in shall do these works. Remember, Jesus is not speaking about apostles or prophets or teachers, no, He says here that all who believe in Him shall do these things.
There are special graces or anointing’s given to the five-fold ministry to demonstrate the power of God through their respective callings. But the power to do the works of Jesus is available to all who call upon His name. The promise of doing the works of Jesus is available according to the depth of their personal walk with and faith in Jesus.
Now that we understand that every believer can walk in the same anointing as Jesus, let us now consider how every believer can come into that level of anointing.
