Definition: Influence The power or capacity of causing an effect in indirect or intangible ways: sway 1 Corinthians 12:3 (AMP) “Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking under the power and influence of the [Holy] Spirit of God can [ever] say, Jesus be cursed! And no one can [really] say, Jesus is [my] Lord, except by and under the power and influence of the Holy Spirit.” We Are People of Influence The Holy Spirit is with us, is in us, and by His Divine direction our lives are taking on a new shape and a new future. You couldn’t and wouldn’t speak like we do unless the Holy Spirit was with you. By His power as God we are able to complete all things. God will bring and has brought people of influence into the church. At first glance, we think of influential people as being of financial means or political power; this assessment would be incorrect. The real power in the church, and even the world, is you. You are Christ’s representatives on Earth and you have all authority. If you say the words… “Father your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.” The Father’s Influence on You What has been and is happening in your lives today is the Father exerting His influence in your life. If you do not think the Father knows your name, you would be mistaken in that, as well. He not only knows your name and address, but the number of hairs on your head. He knows how many grains of sand there are on the whole earth. 2 Timothy 2 “20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. 21 Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.” Learning Godly Influence Let God separate you from the herd. Set yourself apart and God will find a job for you. As God separates us and molds our new man into the character of God that character will draw others to you like a magnet. Then, you who now have influence can use it to lead them to God and the ways of Christ. Matthew 18:6-7 6 “Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea. 7 Woe to the world because of offenses! For offenses must come, but woe to that man by whom the offense comes!” Utilizing Godly Influence The influence that is the most relevant to us is the influence we have over each other and those in our lives. ~ The people we meet in our everyday lives or at work; especially, our friends and family. How we act or react to various situations in our lives can change the direction of many lives. Learning to live with Christ will make opportunities for those around us that would of never occurred. ~ Letting go of anger, stop judging, stop complaining, be patient, don’t speak to quickly, learn to listen. If judgement drives a man from your side what do you gain? If you hold your tongue and he stays by your side, you have opportunity to influence the direction of his life.
