Knowledge: Greek word is "gnosis". This is the accumulation of information or facts about a certain object or thing.
There are numerous meanings for the terms we are dealing with but for the sake of clarity and explanation we will only use these. What does God have to say about this?
1. The facts, feelings or experiences known by a person or group of people
2. The state of knowing
3. Awareness, consciousness, or familiarity gained by experience or learning
4. Erudition or informed learning
5. Specific information about a subject
4 But you, Daniel, roll up and seal the words of the scroll until the time of the end. Many will go here and there to increase knowledge.”
In the past 100 years there has been a literal explosion in the increase of knowledge. The invention of electricity, automobiles, airplanes and computers have all taken place in our generation.
The Hebrew word for “increase” (ra^ba^h) implies not only an addition of knowledge, but also a multiplication or a knowledge that is increasing exponentially. This is so much of an exact prophecy that knowledge is now presently doubling every twenty-two months.
22 “How long will you who are simple love your simple ways?
How long will mockers delight in mockery and fools hate knowledge?
23 Repent at my rebuke! Then I will pour out my thoughts to you,
I will make known to you my teachings.
24 But since you refuse to listen when I call and no one pays attention when I stretch out my hand,
25 since you disregard all my advice and do not accept my rebuke,
The Bible states that knowledge will increase at the end of times. Then, we are told to learn and apply ourselves to grow in knowledge and not just Bible knowledge. God says here that if we learn how to learn He will pour out His thoughts to us. Wow, talk about getting in with God and wanting to know what is going on and what is going to happen.
Proverbs 2 (NIV)
My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you,
2 turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding—
3 indeed, if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding,
4 and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure,
5 then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God.
6 For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
7 He holds success in store for the upright, he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless,
8 for he guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones.
9 Then you will understand what is right and just and fair—every good path.
10 For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul.
11 Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you.
6 My people are destroyed because of lack of knowledge.
Proverbs 19 (NIV1984)
2 It is not good to have zeal without knowledge, nor to be hasty and miss the way.3 A man’s own folly ruins his life, yet his heart rages against the LORD.
2 Peter 1
5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. 8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins.
