Healing: What Works and What Doesn't

July 22, 2018

Mark 16
17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18 they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

Most people have heard this scripture and for those who have tried to use it, well, sometimes it seems to work and sometimes not! So what's up with that? Let us take a look at God's Word and find some enlightenment.

First some healing scriptures:
Psalm 41:3
The Lord sustains him on his sickbed; in his illness you restore him to full health.

Psalm 103:3
Who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases,

3 John 1:2
Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul.

Isaiah 53:5
But he was wounded for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his stripes we are healed.

1 Peter 2:24
He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.

James 5:16
Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.

Matthew 10:1
And he called to him his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every affliction.

Exodus 15:26
Saying, “If you will diligently listen to the voice of the Lord your God, and do that which is right in his eyes, and give ear to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you that I put on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, your healer.”

Is it really that simple? Just quote a few scriptures and presto everyone is instantly healed “In Jesus' Name.” Unfortunately, everyone who has tried their faith in the healing area knows it does not work that way normally, but sometimes it does? So what now?

I will try to describe some different situations to help the explanation.

First there are 3 categories of people to be healed.

  • Unsaved

  • Newly Saved

  • Saved more than a year with discipleship teaching

Unsaved

You meet someone out in the world and they need a miracle.
God will often give them the miracle on the spot to let them know He is real and get them saved.

Newly Saved

Day zero to three (maybe six) months (depends on if they are on fire for God). In most cases, they get whatever they pray for.

Saved with the filling of the Spirit (Discipleship Teaching)

Pray, Believe, Stand on the word and see it come to pass. This is about believing Jesus heals until you know Jesus heals and finally until you no longer think about either one and just heal the sick.

When people come for routine healing there is an under laying issue Jesus wants to come up. Emotional, doctrinal, or believing stuff. Just keep talking until your satisfied you’re done.

Now that was the easy stuff.

When none of that seems to work at all then what?

Romans 8:26
Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groaning’s too deep for words.

We should start all prayer by addressing the Holy Spirit and asking for His help, direction, and maybe for the anointing to heal. It takes a while to remember to do this step so take heart.
The person’s life style can be the cause of the trouble and if he doesn’t repent you can pray all day and get nothing.

1 Corinthians 11:27-30
Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty concerning the body and blood of the Lord. Let a person examine himself, then, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment on himself. That is why many of you are weak and ill, and some have died.

This is just one example of things that can be in the way of any kind of healing. There is one way I know to deal with this condition. They must repent, so now it fishing time. Pray with them, first asking if they can think of any un-forgiveness or anything else they can think of? OK. Now (out loud) you ask the Holy Spirit for wisdom concerning the situation.

Pray this way

"In Jesus Name, I release any ungodly assignments against you and I forgive any sin against your account. Lord God, if there are any assignments from You in this situation we ask for forgiveness and ask You to release the healing."

Pray again for the healing and look for changes to the condition. If they get say 20% awesome because now it just a matter of time. Tell them to come back next week for more and thank Jesus all week. If nothing happens tell them to ask God what’s in the way or is it a matter of timing, try to get them involved in the Miracle, it’s a faith builder.

Exodus 15:26
Saying, “If you will diligently listen to the voice of the Lord your God, and do that which is right in his eyes, and give ear to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you that I put on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, your healer.”

Walk with God and don’t get sick anymore!

Oh! Yelling, screaming, and crying don’t really do anything to get me or them healed.
Try to keep your emotions in check unless it’s the Holy Spirit moving and don’t judge others about the way they act when praying. It’s different for everyone.
