Do Not Let Lust Steal Your Life or Your Victory

September 23, 2018

The Story of Herod and John the Baptist can be found in Mark 6:14-29:

It appears to me that Herod feared John and liked him, somewhat. Were it not for Herodias, the wife of his brother, that he had taken he may have set John free. It seems inevitable to fulfill scripture.

Lust comes in many forms and you can lust after almost anything. Now the Devil's goal is to distract you from the path of God. Thus, the Devil (after watching what you do and what you like) will try to steer you in any direction except God’s.

The story of Herod is but one of billions through history. Our own roots follow this identical path but the Cross of Christ the outcome changed.

1 Peter 4:1-11 (NKJV)             Christ’s Example to Be Followed
4) Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, 2 that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God. 3 For we have spent enough of our past lifetime in doing the will of the Gentiles—when we walked in lewdness, lusts, drunkenness, revelries, drinking parties, and abominable idolatries. 4 In regard to these, they think it strange that you do not run with them in the same flood of dissipation, speaking evil of you. 5 They will give an account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead. 6 For this reason the gospel was preached also to those who are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.

Everyone who does not belong to the family of God will think you are stupid or worse. We must learn to not listen to them and go our own way. We will not be popular or the life of the party, but you will be saved and bring salvation to your household. Once again, love is the key to many doors and opportunities for us. The blessings we receive from God spill out to those around us.

Serving for God’s Glory
7 But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers. 8 And above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins.” 9 Be hospitable to one another without grumbling. 10 As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. 11 If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

Hebrews 12:1-5 (NKJV)
12 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

The Discipline of God
3 For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls. 4 You have not yet resisted to bloodshed, striving against sin. 5 And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons.

Father we bless You and Your Son Jesus. We also thank You for the Holy Spirit, who teaches and guides us thru our daily lives.  The snares of the flesh are many and so we ask for daily wisdom and love that we many walk the path You have set before us.  Amen
