Power To The People: Prayer
What is Prayer?
Answer: The most basic definition of prayer is “talking to God.” Prayer is not meditation or reflection; it is direct address to God. It is the communication of the human soul with the Lord who created the soul. Prayer is the primary way for the believer in Jesus Christ to communicate his emotions and desires with God and to fellowship with God.
John 15:7-8 7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. 8 By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.
Abide ~ accept or act in accordance with (a rule, decision, or recommendation). "I said I would abide by their decision"
Synonyms: comply with, obey, observe, follow, keep to, hold to, conform to, adhere to, stick to, stand by, act in accordance with, uphold, heed, accept, go along with, acknowledge, respect, defer to
Prayer is a learned skill: meaning that you get better with practice. When you press in to pray, ask the Holy Spirit to teach you how to pray effectively. Then begin to pray whatever way you know and keep practicing, not repeating the same prayers but whatever or whoever comes into your mind. Lift them up to God, take your time, and as you continue in this, new and interesting things will come into your mind to pray. Then, you will realize you are being led by the Spirit in your prayer time.
1 John 5:14-15 14 Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15 And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.
Prayer is the Christian’s way of communicating with God. We pray to praise God, thank Him, and tell Him how much we love Him. We pray to enjoy His presence and tell Him what is going on in our lives. We pray to make requests, seek guidance, and ask for wisdom. God loves this exchange with His children, just as we love the exchange we have with our children. Fellowship with God is the heart of prayer. Too often we lose sight of how simple prayer is really supposed to be.
Ephesians 1:18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people
This is an awesome prayer, he is asking God to open your eyes so you can see what is really going in your life and the world. A opening of the Heavens so you can discover who you really are.
Lord; teach us by your Holy Spirit how to pray effectively, in accordance with Your will. We ask for a release of the power of prayer in our lives with understanding.
