Reaching For The Best

Philippians 3   NKJV
12 Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. 13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

Paul is explaining there are things to be achieved in Christ that are worth the trouble. As you grow in experience, wisdom and the knowledge of Christ, a door of possibilities opens in your mind and the realization that there is a lot more of God to be acquired.  At this point you decide whether you think like a servant or a son. A servant working in a house won’t ask for his own room, a car, and "I want to pick the color of my room!" This is about not settling for what you know, but instead it is pushing ahead, stretching yourself to discover more about you.

First, we must decide not to settle for leftovers or incomplete miracles. Paul explains that you don’t get this right away but it must be acquired, achieved, and attained. This faith is secured over an extended period of time mostly by trial and error or practice.

Philippians 3
15 Therefore let us, as many as are mature, have this mind; and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal even this to you. 16 Nevertheless, to the degree that we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us be of the same mind.

The Holy Spirit prepares us for things coming into our lives. The tests, trials, and victories are preparing you for what God is doing in your life and the blessings He is preparing you to receive.

Working toward a college degree will be smart to learn how to type a paper; it would be a necessity but not a requirement. However, even if it is completely unrelated to the sort of work you are moving toward, it will be a great asset. On finding the perfect job, you discover you require these skills because you are expected to type your own reports. If you hadn’t taken that class, it would have been a setback.

Imagine living in the mountains of Virginia on a hill. In the Spring and Summer, it’s so beautiful, but in the winter it is treacherous. Snow and ice are everywhere making even walking a challenge. If you don’t prepare for winter, life will be harsh on everyone living in that house. You will need to park at the bottom of the hill, so a separate parking place will be needed then some sort of stairway with a rail to hold, buckets full of salt and sand. The snow is pretty but there is a cost. You must prepare for the effects of the snow. We are responsible to prepare for this, maybe for the whole household. If you are able to accomplish this you will be able to enjoy life even in the winter.

The Holy Spirit is like a sand truck, as long as you follow, the way is safe. If you go around and drive on unsanded roads you wind up in the ditch. Following the sand truck is easy way to go. Not only is the road surface full of grip on the ice but when you cant see ahead you, just have follow the sand truck. He can see much farther than you.  (Holy Spirit)

We work out of what we know. The Holy Spirit is trying to teach us how to operate out of what He knows.
