Moving To The Rhythm of The Gospel of Christ

March 22, 2020

The gospel is a rhythm of give and take not in the doctrine of the bible but the application of it. See everybody sees scripture a little different than me. Their viewpoint of what various scriptures mean and their understanding of it may not work for me. If they want to play around with Christian doctrine then I can’t be in agreement but what about peripheral issues. How about church on Saturday or Sunday? This issue has been going around for a thousand years. There are some who are adamant that we must have church on Saturday aka “the Sabbath”. Scripture says keep holy the Sabbath or keep holy the Lords day. What this means to me is to set aside a particular day for God which for me is Sunday and honor Him consistently on that day. I actually feel like every day is the Lord’s Day because I don’t act any different on other days of the week but Sunday I set aside for God and honor Him on that day and spend time with my friends and family. He has never challenged me on this subject so I believe He is in agreement.

Sunday is the day I work on my love skills with God and family. Love is the wild card in our thinking as this refers to the application of the gospel and scripture. Love can be obvious and it can be hard to detect but loves goal of change is a guarantee because love never fails. Love pushes against the world because they can’t buy it or bottle it and it is so hard for them to find. We are born of love forgiven grafted in sons adopted and beloved by our God and King: Jesus.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8
4 Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.8 Love never fails.
There are 15 characteristics in Corinthians 13 and God sums them all up with number 16 by finishing with “love never fails”. The fact of the matter is they all represent love each one is a different face of love. This is a description of the character of a son of God; this is who God says I am or can be. This is God telling us what He hopes for us to become, this is the point the bible is leading us too.

1 Corinthians 13:1-3
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. 2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.

The person above looks like an amazing upstanding Christian that everyone looks up to, but in fact God has a different opinion. I may not completely understand love but I believe because Jesus said so. We are not allowed to judge but scripture is, so when I say do not steal from a bank it’s not my judgment but Gods. I am simply referring to you what God had to say about a particular subject. People will try to blame you for having a particular position on a matter and in fact we are just telling you what God had to say about it. Their issue actually is not believing in God or just disobedience.

Now: if I am talking to someone from Dallas and we know how they are, so for the sake of discussion let’s call him Stephen. So when I tell Stephen don’t rob that bank he gets mad at me like it was my idea but it wasn’t it was God that spoke it. What I am warning Stephen about is that I am aware that God will hold him accountable even if he never gets caught by the authorities.

This is in fact an act of love to warn my brother of impending trouble. Trouble: this is where the trouble begins with the application of the warning without love in an attitude of judging. These hard hearted legalistic people make warning people ahead of time nearly impossible. Everyone is so damaged from being judged that they no longer listen to anyone other than others who are like then. They already know the others will agree with their thinking, the bible refers to this as the “blind leading the blind”. God fix us! Don’t be this guy and also don’t give up on the guy struggling but hold fast to the doctrine of salvation and don’t skip your lessons of love one another. This was so important to God that it was the second of two commands He gave the church. (Above my reference to the word GUY is gender neutral)

Mark 12:30-31
30 And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. 31 And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

Closing Prayer

Father God: thank you for Your Son Jesus and His gift of Salvation. We are grateful beyond words and we love you with all we have to give. Thank You God for good health and continued good health. Hold us close to You and guide our lives our purpose and direction. Bless the work of our hands and bless our path ahead “in the Name of Jesus”.

Salvation Prayer
Lord Jesus I ask You to forgive my sins and come into my heart. I believe You are the Son of the living God who died for my sins and was raised from the dead on the third day. I give you my life and I ask you to fix my life according to Your plans for me. Amen
